Jack the Ripper Walk

Hi Guys! As you know, I recently went on a Jack the Ripper walking tour, which showed us the places where the murders happened, and where the murdered prostitutes lived. I've taken a few little snaps, but if you want to learn a bit more and see a few photos, go to this website:

But only if you don't think you'll get too scared! This website is also quite interesting and has photos too:

http://www.london-walks.co.uk/28/jack-the-ripper-photos.shtml

Background: Jack the Ripper (also known as the Whitechapel Murderer), was known to have killed 5 prostitutes: 1. Mary Ann Nicholls, 2. Annie Chapman, 3. Elizabeth Stride, 4. Catharine Eddowes, and 5. Mary Jeanette Kelly. These murders took place in 1888, and the Jack the Ripper case has never been solved!

Map of where murders took place............

Street where 1st victim lived

If you look closely (you might need to click on the image to enlarge it), you can see the words 'The Frying Pan'. This was a pub which was frequently used as a brothel, and housed many prostitutes - some of which were the murdered victims.

Pub: The 10 Bells. Reportly one of the last places Annie Chapman was seen before her murder...

Sorry this image is a little blurry - and not the best angle, but i couldn't resist! It's called 'Itchy Park'! The Story behind it is, there were so many homeless people in 1888 (assuming before and after that date too), this park is right next to the church. They were sent away from sleeping at the church, and consequently, would sleep standing up against the trees. Apparently, they looked like they were 'scratching their back's' as they slept - constantly stumbling and falling over.

This shot is one of the many 'run-down' pieces of scenery you find when walking the tour. It's hard to believe this sort of area exists - and there is so much worse too! No wonder Whitechapel and Old Kent Road are the cheapest properties on the Monopoly Board!
